Documentary Report 'Unworthy Deportations' | Dignified Treatment Project 2021

Despite the legal protection afforded to pregnant and breastfeeding women during immigration operations, Natacha, Merteliz, and Madochenie were taken to the Belladiere-Elias Pina border point, like hundreds of other women, without regard for their condition, without exhausting prior procedure, and without considering their ties, as part of migration control measures focused on women that the Dominican government has implemented since September.

The protagonists of this documentary report, prepared by journalist and producer Tony Pichardo, describe the situation faced by working mothers, the uncertainty created by imminent births, the anguish caused by separation from children who remained in Santo Domingo, and husbands searching for partners who have not returned home. The audiovisual also reflects the solidarity and sisterhood of Dominican women who have cared for the infants. It is a production of the Dignified Treatment Project, a three-year initiative that monitors respect for the rights of migrants and compliance with due process in deportations in the border area.
