Documentary Report 'Unworthy Deportations'

Despite legal protections shielding pregnant and breastfeeding women from migration operations, Natacha, Merteliz, and Madochenie were taken to the Belladiere-Elias Pina border point, like hundreds of other women, without considering their condition, without exhausting prior procedure, and without weighing ties to the country, as part of migration control measures focused on women that the Dominican government has implemented since September.

The protagonists of the documentary report, produced by journalist and producer Tony Pichardo, describe the situation faced by working mothers, the uncertainty surrounding imminent births, the anguish caused by separation from children who remained in Santo Domingo, and husbands traveling to search for partners who have not returned home. The audiovisual also reflects the solidarity and sisterhood of Dominican women who have cared for the infants. This production is part of the Dignified Treatment Project, a three-year initiative that monitors respect for the rights of migrants and compliance with due process in deportations in the border area.
