The New Venezuelan Immigration
In the 2016 edition of State of Migration concerning the Dominican Republic, we highlighted the new trend in Latin America and the Caribbean whereby Venezuela, given the prolonged political, economic, and social crisis it is undergoing, has become a country of emigration, in contrast with the role it played in previous decades as a host country.
This new immigration creates challenges for receiving countries, including the Dominican Republic, which according to the official figures presented had received more than 20,000 citizens from that country, while awaiting the results of the second National Survey of Immigrants of 2017 to provide more clarity on their volume and characteristics.
In order to raise awareness in Dominican society about the challenges and opportunities posed by the arrival of Venezuelan women and men to the country, OBMICA is launching this video on The New Venezuelan Immigration, which also accompanies the dissemination and distribution of this yearbook.
