OBMICA Launches Its 2022 Yearbook

For twelve consecutive years, OBMICA and its associated researchers have monitored the migrations that originate in, pass through, and arrive in the Dominican Republic within the insular Caribbean context. This effort culminates in State of Migration Concerning the Dominican Republic, a publication that serves as a reference for public decision-makers, researchers, human rights defenders, communicators, and others interested in migration issues.

The yearbook provides an overview of the main international migration developments and trends of the year, highlighting the challenges and opportunities they represent for the country and for people involved in these movements. It maintains a format similar to previous editions, allowing readers to track the evolution of migration flows, policies, and public opinion across five chapters: migration trends in the insular Caribbean, Dominican emigration, immigration flows, migration governance in the Dominican Republic, and the human rights situation of migrants and their descendants.

The publication also introduces new elements to expand knowledge on migration. In the period covered by this yearbook, one notable issue is the increased visibility of the so-called route through Mexico among Dominican emigrants on their way to the United States, as documented by Dominican media.

OBMICA hopes the perspectives gathered in this yearbook will contribute to migration policies that maximize the benefits of immigration while guaranteeing the human rights of migrants and their families.
