In a world such as the one we inhabit, the path toward development, equity, and citizens' rights necessarily passes through cooperation and understanding between nations. At the island scale, this implies a major responsibility for the Haitian and Dominican states, which, with the support of their societies, must learn to coexist in a climate of mutual respect and understanding while facing together the inescapable tasks imposed by globalization as sovereign nations capable of working as good neighbors.
