OBMICA Bulletin December 2022

We are honored to present the latest edition of the OBMICA institutional bulletin, corresponding to December 2022. The publication is available for online reading and PDF download here.

On the cover photo, we see migrant workers from Asia and Africa on construction sites as part of Qatar's preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022. During the World Cup, the issue of migrant workers' labor rights gained major prominence. The host country received criticism over the treatment of foreign workers, which we address in our editorial.

Throughout the last decade, reports of labor exploitation of migrant workers and even forced labor have become widespread. OBMICA launches its 2021 yearbook

We are pleased to announce OBMICA's latest yearbook, edited by Sebastian Gerardo-Viala and Bridget Wooding. Since 2011, OBMICA staff and its associate researchers have monitored migration dynamics both in the insular Caribbean and at the binational scale between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. This effort results in the State of Migration in the Dominican Republic, the research and publication that best illustrates OBMICA's model of action-oriented research. Read more...
