Situation of Venezuelan Migrants, Subject of a Thematic Hearing before the IACHR in the Dominican Republic
May 9, 2018.- Civil society organizations that work on migration issues from a human rights perspective invite the press to take part in the hearing 'Human rights situation of Venezuelan persons in the context of human mobility in the Americas,' within the framework of the 168th Period of Sessions of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), which will take place in the Dominican Republic

May 9, 2018.- Civil society organizations that work on migration issues from a human rights perspective invite the press to take part in the hearing "Human rights situation of Venezuelan persons in the context of human mobility in the Americas," within the framework of the 168th Period of Sessions of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), which will take place in the Dominican Republic from May 3 to 11, 2018.
This thematic hearing, which will take place on Friday the 11th at 11:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Dominican capital, was called by a collective of organizations based in Venezuela, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States, with the purpose of making visible the violation of "the human rights of Venezuelan persons in human mobility throughout the American continent and the Caribbean," as well as "illustrating to the IACHR the urgent need to make every possible effort to ensure that the countries of the region not only understand the seriousness of the situation in the country of origin, but also the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of Venezuelan persons who are on their territory."
Civil society organizations have also committed to sharing with the Commission their fieldwork experiences with the Venezuelan population on the move or residing in the different receiving countries in the Caribbean, North America, Central America, and South America.
