OBMICA Represents the Country in Expert Consultations on the Human Rights of Migrant Children
June 29, 2017. At the end of June, Allison Petrozziello, OBMICA's Research and Programs Coordinator, was invited to Mexico by UNICEF to attend two expert consultations on violence and the human rights of children in the context of international migration.
During the global consultation, convened by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence against Children, realities documented by OBMICA were shared regarding the commercial sexual exploitation of Haitian adolescent girls in the country's border area, as well as the links between statelessness and the vulnerability of young women of Haitian descent to gender-based violence, including trafficking in persons.
During the regional consultation, contributions were made to the General Comment that the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families and the Committee on the Rights of the Child are jointly preparing on the Rights of Children and Adolescents in the Context of International Migration.
