Human Trafficking Under the Spotlight

OBMICA participated in the Grupo Corripio breakfast, together with representatives of other civil society organizations working within a coalition, held on November 21. This activity was followed up on December 4 with a broader range of journalists to continue raising awareness about a topic of growing interest in the framework of forced migration.

Among other points, the necessary modification of the Dominican law on trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling stands out. OBMICA, as part of the national chapter of ObservaLaTrata, which corresponds to a regional network, was responsible for another activity aimed at continuing training on the issue with central government actors, university professors, and interested members of civil society. This was a training day held on November 14 under the auspices of Save the Children, taught by Tahira Vargas. Its purpose was to present teaching modules recently launched by the United Nations (UNODC), suitable for use in Latin America and the Caribbean.
