Project Background

This book project aims to document and illustrate issues related to statelessness, nationality, and citizenship practices in the Caribbean and its diaspora. The book will include short stories, personal narratives, poems, and essays, which will require high-quality images to complement the text. The photographs will seek to capture experiences, community dynamics, and the relevant sociopolitical landscapes described in the written contributions of the selected authors.

Terms of Reference (ToR) for Photographer

Title: Photographer for a Book Project on Statelessness, Nationality, and Citizenship Practices in the Caribbean

Scope of Work

The photographer will be responsible for:

1. Pre-production:

• Collaborating with the research team to understand the book's themes and objectives.
• Developing a visual concept and shot list aligned with the book's narrative.
• Coordinating logistics, including travel arrangements and permissions for taking photographs.

1. Photography:

• Capturing high-quality, high-resolution images of relevant people, landscapes, institutions, and documents.
• Ensuring the ethical representation of subjects, especially in vulnerable communities.
• Obtaining the necessary consent from people appearing in the photographs.
• Documenting field visits, interviews, and relevant public or private spaces.

1. Post-production:

• Editing and retouching images to ensure clarity, color accuracy, and overall quality.
• Organizing images with captions and metadata.
• Delivering a curated selection of images in the required formats (high resolution for print and optimized for digital use).

Deliverables:

• A minimum of [to be determined] high-quality photographs aligned with the book's themes.
• A photographic catalog with location details and brief descriptions.
• Signed consent forms for identifiable individuals in the images.
• Edited and unedited versions of all images in JPEG and RAW formats.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proven experience in documentary or editorial photography.
• A portfolio demonstrating work on human rights, social issues, or related areas.
• Knowledge of ethical considerations when photographing vulnerable populations.
• Availability to travel within the Caribbean as required.
• Proficiency in photo-editing software (for example, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom).
• Previous experience with NGOs, academic institutions, or publishers is an asset.

Ethical Considerations:

• Ensuring dignity and respect in the representation of all photographed individuals.
• Obtaining informed consent before photographing people, especially in sensitive situations.
• Complying with privacy laws and ethical guidelines on the use of images.
