Civil Society Meeting on the Venezuelan Mobility Crisis Ahead of the IACHR Hearing
May 9, 2018.- The Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) will host this Thursday, May 10, at 3 p.m., a meeting of civil society scholars to focus on the human rights situation of Venezuelan migrant persons. It will take place in Octagonal VPO-01 of that university's Graduate Building.

The PUCMM meeting, "Human Rights Situation of Venezuelan Persons in the Context of Human Mobility in the Americas," will feature three panels. The first, entitled "Causes of Emigration from Venezuela and Its Impact on Receiving Countries," will include Carlos Patino, from Provea; Belissa Guerrero, from Amnesty International; and Marco Romero, from the Consultancy for Human Rights and Displacement (CODHES).
The second panel: "Characteristics of Migration in the Major Destination Countries: Brazil and Ecuador," with Guillermo Rovayo; Xavier Gudino, from Asylum Access; Cleyton Abreu, from the Jesuit Service for Migrants and Refugees in Brazil; and Leticia Carvalho, from Missao de Paz.
The final panel, "Solutions that Promote Greater Protection: Migration and the Caribbean." In this space, Bridget Wooding, director of the Centre for Migration Observation and Social Development in the Caribbean (OBMICA), Francisco Quintana, from CEJIL, and Ligia Bolivar, from the Human Rights Center of the Andres Bello Catholic University (CDH-UCAB), will discuss durable solutions identified from a protection perspective.
The meeting is organized by OBMICA, the Dominican chapter of the Latin American Council of Scholars of International and Comparative Law (COLADIC-RD), the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), and a group of non-governmental organizations working on human rights and migration, with the support of PUCMM.
