Sustainable Development of the Dominican-Haitian Border: Current Situation and Future Perspectives
As is well known, greater collaboration at the binational level and comprehensive development strategies are needed that, by promoting coordination and shared management for the benefit of the border population, can improve livelihoods, binational trade, access to basic services, and the sustainable development of the border.
As is well known, it is necessary to foster greater binational collaboration and develop comprehensive development strategies that, by promoting levels of coordination and shared management for the benefit of border populations, make it possible to improve livelihoods, binational trade, access to basic services, and sustainable development of the border.
With the aim of discussing all these issues, FFS organized a regional forum on "Sustainable Development of the Dominican-Haitian Border: Current Situation and Future Perspectives", with the participation of representatives from all the relevant sectors: local authorities, social organizations, educational centers, cooperation agencies, churches, and social communication media, among others, in order to discuss solutions and perspectives for border development based on the results of studies, development plans, and surveys conducted for the southern border area.
In this way, the goal is to foster greater collaboration and awareness at the regional, national, and binational levels that will allow the development of comprehensive strategies addressing multiple environmental, social, and economic vulnerabilities from a human-rights perspective, with gender equity and the promotion of peaceful coexistence, while also promoting levels of coordination and shared management. At that forum, OBMICA presented its study, whose purpose was "to generate inputs for action and reflection that inform the construction of public policies and campaigns for the prevention, eradication, and sanctioning of any form of discrimination or violence so as to give rise to inclusive, intercultural, peaceful, and respectful communities."
