August 14, 2017. The Spanish Cultural Center will host, this Tuesday the 29th at 7 p.m., a screening of the documentary “Casa en tierra ajena”, around which a panel discussion focused on migration will also be organized with experts on the subject.

The Costa Rican production, 80 minutes long and directed by Ivannia Villalobos, is based on the book “No mas muro” by Carlos Sandoval Garcia. It addresses the drama of forced migration in Central America from three perspectives: the forced migration of people in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador; the dangers of the journey; and the control policies and solidarity networks woven around these journeys.

The film focuses on the phenomenon in Central America at a time when social conditions in the sending countries are becoming more difficult while anti-immigrant rhetoric is gaining strength in receiving countries.

And this latter point will undoubtedly be the focus of the migration panel discussion, which will feature Ms. Maria Paredes; Natalia Riveros, Research and Programs Coordinator of the Observatory for Caribbean Migrants and Social Development (OBMICA); and OBMICA associate researcher Carlos Abaunza. The discussion will be moderated by Eddy Tejada of FLACSO.
